First Impression: Helena's moniker did not come from nowhere. "The Grey Lady" comes from her rather cold and haughty carriage and her disinclination towards smiling. Helena carries herself with an air of unspoken melancholy, which only adds to this aura of greyness.
Basic Skeleton: One's first impression of Helena is true for her until one gets to really know her. Helena is cold and distant to most people but deep, deep beneath the surface, she is actually quite sweet and generous. She doesn't give her heart away easily - but when she does, she means it and is not quite as fickle as some women are inclined to be.

Face/Complexion: Helena has a rather prominent forehead. Her skin is fair, often a milky white, though it allows itself to tan a little during the summer months when she spends time in the sun.
Build: Helena is thin. She has the build of someone who does not eat much -- and she doesn't.
Defining Marks/Scars, etc.: There is a small tear on the upper part of her left ear from where Vortigern's ring caught it when she was younger.
Disabilities/Handicaps: Her sense of touch at the very tips of her fingers is not strong. She actually can't feel anything there. This was caused by a rather unfortunate incident with an angry Vortigern and a rolling pin.
Dress Style: Helena actually dresses very conservatively. She wears the long skirts and the full sleeves required of a lady of her time. In modern times, she continues to wear her corset beneath her clothing. She never exposes any skin above her knees unless it is absolutely necessary to, which is never.
Manner of Speech: Helena is very eloquent and her elocution is superb. She watches her diction and regulates her use of language. She does not cuss and she rarely uses contractions. She is fluent in English and Scottish Gaelic. Helena is also a Parselmouth.
Manner of Movement: Control is the basis of Helena's life. Her movement is careful and controlled. She moves with a natural air of superiority. Despite having been born after Vortigern was dethroned, Helena still carries herself like a princess. Her movements are calculated and she tries not to waste effort on unnecessary gestures. Her movement is subdued and subtle.

Family History: Helena was the love child of Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw. Vortigern, even before he surrendered his throne and faked his death, had begun correspondence with the Lady Ravenclaw. After his disappearance into obscurity, however, he wooed her and was rejected several times -- until she approached him. Blinded by his love for her, he did not question her sudden interest in a marriage to him. The wedding was done hastily over the summer holidays at Vortigern's chateau, with Godric Gryffindor and Helga Hufflepuff standing as witnesses.

A month after their marriage, which was consummated once, Rowena returned to Hogwarts. In December, she returned for the winter holidays and gave birth to Helena, whom everyone thought was premature -- the truth being that she had been brought to full term and she had actually been conceived a little before Easter. Rowena, truly intending to love the child and care for it, realized that she could never look at Helena when she had Salazar's grey eyes. This caused Rowena to shun the child and throw herself into her work, leaving Helena at the hands of a man who knew he was not her father.

Vortigern did not waver in his promise to raise Helena as his own, continually hoping that Rowena might someday love him back if he did. As a result, Vortigern took care of Helena though he could not bring himself to truly love her like a father.


Psychology

Introvert/Extrovert: Introvert; Helena prefers to keep to herself. Growing up an only child, she learned to entertain herself despite being alone and taught herself to cope with loneliness. She enjoys solitude and quiet.
Phobias/Fears: Helena is afraid of death. She is afraid to die and to lose those whom she loves and cares for. She is afraid of never making anything of herself and allowing her name to merely die as it passed through history. Also, she is quite afraid of the dark.
Mental Health: Fairly stable. Helena has some issues with separation anxiety and insecurity but, otherwise, she is as normal as the next person.
